In this article we explain how to install Brandtrack Player on an iPad and connect it to your Sonos Era 100 speaker using AirPlay (Wi‑Fi), step by step. If you use a non-Apple device, you'll find the Bluetooth alternative at the end.
Before you start
Have the following ready so the setup only takes a few minutes:
- An iPad with up-to-date iOS, connected to the internet.
- The iPad charger (ideally, keep it plugged in at all times).
- Access to MyBrandtrack to see your zone's 6-digit code.
- A Sonos Era 100, plugged in and turned on.
- For AirPlay: the Sonos already set up with the Sonos app.
- For AirPlay: the iPad and the Sonos on the same Wi‑Fi network.
Step 1: Install Brandtrack Player on the iPad
Brandtrack Player is the app that automatically plays the music and announcements configured for your location.
- Download the app. On the iPad, go to app.brandtrack.fm or search for "Brandtrack Player" in the App Store and install it.
- Find your zone's code. Sign in to MyBrandtrack and go to the Zones section. The 6-digit code (for example, 123456) appears next to your zone's name.
- Pair the iPad. Open Brandtrack Player and enter the code. That's it. The music assigned to your zone starts playing automatically.
The code can only be used once. If it has already been used or doesn't work, generate a new one in MyBrandtrack: go to your zone and choose Change device. This signs out the previous device and creates a new code.
It keeps working if the internet goes down. The music is downloaded to the iPad and keeps playing offline. Keep the iPad connected to receive changes to playlists, schedules and announcements.
Step 2: Connect the iPad to the Sonos Era 100 with AirPlay
AirPlay sends audio over Wi‑Fi: it's the most stable connection for a business. Before you start, confirm that the iPad and the Sonos are on the same Wi‑Fi network and that the Sonos is already set up in the Sonos app.
-
Play the music. Open Brandtrack Player and leave the music playing.
-
Open Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner and tap the AirPlay icon (marked in red).
-
Choose the Sonos Era 100. Tap Sonos Era 100 in the list (or the room name of your Sonos).
-
Done! A checkmark appears next to the Sonos and the music is now playing through the speaker.
The screenshots are from an iPhone. On the iPad, the steps and screens are the same.
Important: if the iPad restarts or loses the connection, repeat steps 2 and 3 to select the Sonos Era 100 again.
Alternative: connect via Bluetooth if your device isn't from Apple
The Sonos Era 100 and Era 300 also connect via Bluetooth, so you can use them with devices that don't have AirPlay (for example, Android).
- Pairing mode. Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the back of the Sonos until the light blinks blue.
- Find the speaker. On your device, open the Bluetooth settings and select Sonos Era 100 (or Era 300).
- Play. Open Brandtrack Player: the audio will come out of the Sonos.
Day-to-day recommendations
With these settings, the music plays without interruptions throughout your opening hours:
- Keep the iPad plugged in at all times, with Low Power Mode turned off.
- iPad volume at maximum. Adjust the level from the Sonos or from the Sonos app.
- Turn on "Do Not Disturb". This way, iPad notifications don't play through the speakers.
- Avoid restarts during business hours. Turn off automatic iOS updates and update while the location is closed.
- Use the iPad only for the music. Avoid opening other apps that play audio, because they can take control of the speaker.
- Keep the internet connection active to receive changes to playlists, schedules and announcements from MyBrandtrack.
Troubleshooting
- The app doesn't play music. Check that you entered the 6-digit code and that the zone has music assigned in MyBrandtrack.
- The code doesn't work. It can only be used once. Generate a new one in MyBrandtrack from your zone with Change device.
- The Sonos doesn't appear in AirPlay. Confirm that the iPad and the Sonos are on the same Wi‑Fi network and that the Sonos appears in the Sonos app. Avoid guest networks: they often block communication between devices.
- The Sonos doesn't appear in Bluetooth. Press and hold the Bluetooth button again until the light blinks blue. If it was connected to another phone or tablet, disconnect it first.
- The sound cuts out. With Bluetooth, move the iPad closer to the speaker. With AirPlay, check the Wi‑Fi signal where the Sonos is. If it persists, restart the Sonos by unplugging it for a few seconds.
