In this article we explain how to play Brandtrack on your Sonos Era 100, Era 100 SL or Era 300 speakers. There are three ways to connect them; choose the one that matches the device that will play the music at your venue.
Which option is right for your venue?
| Option | Use it if... | Advantages |
|---|---|---|
| A · AirPlay | You have an iPad, iPhone or Mac dedicated to the music. | Wi‑Fi connection, no cables or extra equipment. |
| B · Bluetooth | You use a Brandtrack Box or an Android tablet or phone. | No cables. With a Box, our team connects it remotely and the volume is controlled centrally. |
| C · USB‑C cable (the most stable) | You use a Brandtrack Box or a computer. | No dropouts or pairing. Requires the Sonos Line‑In Adapter. |
Before you start (all options)
- The Sonos Era plugged in, turned on and set up in the Sonos app.
- A stable internet connection at the venue (Ethernet cable or Wi‑Fi).
- A power outlet near where the player will be placed.
- Access to MyBrandtrack to see your zone's 6-digit code (if you use an iPad, Android device or computer).
Where to place the player. The iPad, Box or computer is installed permanently and stays on all day. Place it:
- Near the Sonos, in the same room and a few meters away.
- Ventilated and stable, on a flat surface with nothing on top.
- Away from heat (kitchens, ovens, amplifiers, direct sunlight) and water (sinks, coffee machines, restrooms).
- Away from exposed electrical equipment, such as electrical panels or unprotected cables.
- Where it won't be unplugged, out of reach of staff and customers.
Option A: AirPlay from an iPad, iPhone or Mac
The Apple device and the Sonos must be on the same Wi‑Fi network.
1. Install Brandtrack Player
- Download the app. Go to app.brandtrack.fm or search for "Brandtrack Player" in the App Store.
- Find your zone's code. In MyBrandtrack → Zones, next to the zone name (6 digits).
- Link the device. Open the app, enter the code and the music starts playing.
The code can only be used once. If it doesn't work, generate a new one in MyBrandtrack from your zone with Change device.
2. Send the music to the Sonos
-
Play the music. Leave Brandtrack Player playing.
-
Open Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner and tap the AirPlay icon (marked in red).
-
Choose your Sonos. Tap it in the list (or the name of its room).
-
Done! A checkmark appears next to the Sonos and the music plays through the speaker.
The screenshots are from an iPhone. On the iPad the steps and screens are the same.
Important: if the device restarts or loses connection, repeat steps 2 and 3. Keep it always plugged in, with "Do Not Disturb" on and the volume at maximum (adjust the level from the Sonos).
Option B: Bluetooth with a Brandtrack Box or Android device
The player must stay near the Sonos, in the same room.
How to turn on the Sonos Bluetooth: find the Bluetooth button on the back of the Sonos, at the top, above the USB‑C port. Press and hold it until the light flashes blue: the Sonos is ready to pair. If the light stops flashing before you connect, press the button again.
With a Brandtrack Box
- Connect the Box to the Ethernet cable (or the preconfigured Wi‑Fi) and to power.
- Wait for it to turn on: correct time on the display and a solid blue light.
- Contact us with the Box code (white label underneath, BOX‑XXXXX) to let us know it's ready.
- Turn on the Sonos Bluetooth and let us know when it's flashing: we connect the Box remotely.
With a Box, the volume is controlled centrally.
With an Android tablet or phone
- Install Brandtrack Player from app.brandtrack.fm.
- Enter your zone's 6-digit code (MyBrandtrack → Zones).
- Turn on the Sonos Bluetooth until the light flashes blue.
- In Settings → Bluetooth, tap your Sonos Era. When the light turns solid, it's playing.
Option C: USB‑C cable with the Sonos Line‑In Adapter
This is the most stable connection: the audio reaches the Sonos rear USB‑C port by cable, without depending on Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth.
What you need
- Sonos Line‑In Adapter (USB‑C to 3.5 mm). Sold separately and compatible with Era 100, Era 100 SL and Era 300.
- A cable for your player: with a Box, an RCA to 3.5 mm cable; with a computer, a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable (mini jack).
The connection looks like this: Box or computer → RCA or 3.5 mm cable → Line‑In Adapter → Sonos Era USB‑C.
With a Brandtrack Box
- Connect the Box to the internet and to power. Wait for the correct time on the display and a solid blue light.
- Connect the RCA cable to the Box audio output and the 3.5 mm end to the adapter.
- Connect the adapter to the rear USB‑C port of the Sonos.
With a computer
- Install Brandtrack Player from app.brandtrack.fm and enter your zone's 6-digit code.
- Connect the cable to the computer's headphone output and to the adapter.
- Connect the adapter to the Sonos USB‑C port and turn the computer volume up to maximum.
Turn off sleep mode and automatic updates during business hours, and keep the Brandtrack app always open.
Turn on the line input in the Sonos app
- Play the music on the Box or the computer.
- Open the Sonos app and, on Home, under "Your Sources", choose Line‑In.
- Turn on Autoplay so the Sonos plays automatically when it detects audio.
Do you have more Sonos speakers at your venue?
With any of the three options, the music can play on all your Sonos speakers (for example, Sonos One):
- Open the Sonos app on a phone connected to the venue's Wi‑Fi.
- Group the speakers with the Sonos Era that receives the Brandtrack music.
- Leave them grouped. If someone ungroups them, the music keeps playing only on the Era.
Day-to-day recommendations
- Don't turn off the player. If you need silence, lower the volume. When it's on, it receives changes to playlists, schedules and announcements.
- Don't connect phones to the Sonos. If someone connects their phone via Bluetooth or AirPlay, Brandtrack loses control of the speaker.
- Don't move the equipment. Moving the player away from the Sonos can drop the connection. If you need to move them, let us know.
- Protect the power supply. A voltage regulator or UPS prevents damage from power surges and outages.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing plays. Check that the player has internet (on the Box, the correct time on the display) and that the zone has music assigned in MyBrandtrack.
- The code doesn't work. It can only be used once. Generate a new one in MyBrandtrack from your zone with Change device.
- AirPlay: the Sonos doesn't appear. Confirm that the device and the Sonos are on the same Wi‑Fi network. Avoid guest networks.
- Bluetooth: the sound cuts out. Move the Box or Android device closer to the Sonos and remove obstacles. If it persists, contact us.
- Cable: no sound from the Sonos. Check that the adapter is properly connected and that Line‑In is selected in the Sonos app.
- Only one speaker plays. Check in the Sonos app that the speakers are still grouped.
